Yoga For Beginners: How Hard Can It Be?

Woman Having Fun Doing Yoga
Yoga is so easy since you can do it anywhere!

Yoga’s not just a fad these days. It’s actually more than that now. There are a lot of folks who are seriously exploring the wonders of yoga.

These days, yoga is not just a practice that’s exclusive to a certain group of people. It’s safe to say that yoga has become very popular for regular folks like you and me.

Thanks to the amazing wonders of yoga, it has rapidly become a very popular weight loss solution for a lot of folks. More than that, yoga has been proven to help bust stress.

The calming effect brought about by a quick yoga workout just puts the body in total ease. This is a far cry from the physical strain we usually feel after a gym workout. Yoga just seems to work for most folks because there’s not much pain that goes into it.

Starting It

In spite of all the benefits of yoga, some people may find it hard to embrace it. Even if they know it’s really good for the their body and mind, they are still reluctant to embrace it.

I, for one, was like them but I was able to get pass that level of being reluctant and went on to embrace the practice, at least, for the purpose of weight loss.

In my opinion, one of the reasons why some folks are reluctant about yoga is because of the diet that comes with it. When we see the kind of folks who are really into yoga, we usually get intimidated. Their lean bodies prove that they stick to a strict diet routine. They have a strong sense of discipline to eat the right kinds of foods. That can be pretty intimidating in the beginning.

In my case, I was not prepared to give up eating certain kinds of food. The good news is, there’s really no need to do that.

Take some time to watch this video and you will find that there’s no need to really stop what you’re eating should you want to embrace yoga.

You know what I found really interesting, post yoga vs. post a regular gym workout is that I actually crave healthier foods and I want to eat less than I usually do. Like post gym, I want a burger, post yoga, I just want avocados and nuts and really clean things. So I think that the yoga practice is also doing something to help with just your choices after.

You really have to try yoga to really understand that part. In my case, I did and that’s why I’m still enjoying yoga, embracing to this day. A change of diet comes naturally with yoga. In my case, I was not compelled to eat healthy. It just came naturally as I went on with my simple yoga exercises.

When you do yoga, you will feel calm. That’s pretty much a huge part of the reason why it’s such a great stress buster.

Regular yoga workout will not just transform the body. It will also transform the way we eat. Our diet will eventually change for the better and the video explains why.

It’s an ancient yoga text and in the Pradipika, they talk about our main purpose in yoga, whether it’s on the mat or meditation, whatever you’re doing, is to calm the mind. So whatever you’re doing, that’s the point. And they talk about eating Sattvic diet, which is like a clean, claming, and cooling diet top help that along.

The video adds that:

The diet helps the practice and the practice helps the diet.

So in terms of dieting, there’s really nothing to worry about. Yoga, itself, helps us change the way we look at food. That is one of the most awesome effects of yoga on the mind and body.

It’s Easy To Eat Clean

Now, that takes us to clean eating. What’s that about? The first time I heard about clean eating, I was totally turned off. I thought it meant I wasn’t going to be eating this and that. I was wrong,

Furthermore, I thought clean eating would be time-consuming, taking much of my time to prep up a meal. Well, I was right and at the same time, wrong.

Clean eating is time-consuming. Choosing the right kind of food always takes time. However, that didn’t stop me from eating clean because I had heard about a diet called Bistro MD.

Since Bistro MD is a meal delivery service I decided to try it. If it could help me eat clean and at the same time, spare me from the hassle of prepping a meal, then it was definitely worth a try.

So I chose an easier way to eating clean by choosing Bistro MD. I find this home delivery service very convenient because I can still create my own meal plan with the help of the Bistro MD team. I tell them what I want and they do everything else for me. I just wait until everything is delivered to me.

If you are wondering why I chose Bistro MD, in spite of the fact that there are other home meal delivery services out there, here’s my reason why.

Out of all the home meal delivery services out there, only Bistro MD takes pride in choosing responsible food sources. Fruits and vegetables are all naturally grown and meats are all hormone free. Their choice of seafood comes from environmentally friendly sources.

Knowing that the sources of food are all natural, there’s just no doubt that I can eat clean with Bistro MD. As you progress with your yoga, you will realize how important it is to eat clean. That won’t be a problem since Bistro MD makes it easier to eat clean.

Simple Yoga Poses To Start With

Thanks to a diet like Bistro MD, it’s pretty easy to start doing yoga on a regular basis. Yoga and a good diet just go so well together. In no time, doing yoga and eating a good diet easily becomes a habit. By the way, the diet delivery experts at Savvy Weight Programs have also provided some great feedback on Diet-To-Go, which is another diet delivery service that you might like to explore.

Yoga is not a stressful way to lose weight. It’s really important to take it one step at a time.

Always keep in mind that there are simple ways to start yoga. This means that you shouldn’t be intimidated by the yogis who twist their body effortlessly. What you need to keep in mind is that before the yogis got to that point, they had to start somewhere.

This is the “somewhere” where you can start some simple yoga poses. This video shows a great way for you to start yoga.

Today, we have a sequence for a complete beginner. So if you’re new to yoga or you’ve been curious about yoga practice and all its wonderful and beautiful benefits, this is a great sequence for you.

The good thing about yoga is that you don’t need much to start it. You just need an open mind and you are all set to go. Unlike physical workout where you will need various equipment to sculpt your body, yoga is a far cry because you won’t really need much to start doing it.

Here’s the basic yoga pose. It all starts from this particular pose.

We’re going to begin in a cross-legged position. We call this Sukhasana or the Easy Pose, the pose of ease.

From that pose, you can start doing some breathing that can help put the body at ease.

Take a second here to check in with the breath by maybe looping the shoulders a couple times forward, up and back. Inhale looping forward, exhale grounding down and back. Just finding a little organic movement here. Then maybe checking in with the neck by maybe moving one ear over one shoulder and then go forward on the chest, shaking the head, yes, and now, no.

Coming back to center. We’ll bring the head over the heart. The heart over the pelvis. So take a second to maybe close your eyes or soften the gaze. You can just go inward a little here as we find an alignment, head over heart, heart over pelvis. We lift the sternum up the chest and then again, ground down though the elbows here on the exhale. Find a nice space between the ears and the shoulders. We’re just going to come to the moment with a little integrity, whatever that means to you. For me, it means body awareness, mind awareness, noticing where my thoughts are and coming back to that body awareness.

With yoga, there’s no need for you to rush. As a matter of fact, you should take some time to really breathe and enjoy or experience the moment.

Then see if you can begin to deepen your breath here, nice long inhale in and a nice long juicy exhale out. Keep that going nice, long inhalation and a nice long extended exhale out.

Here’s another simple yoga pose. It’s actually more of a hand gesture that symbolizes peace, tranquility, and calmness.

Draw your palms together at the heart. Take a deep breath in. Each time we come here, this is a great little beginner’s tip. Each time we come to this mudra, we call it Anjali mudra, you can think about lifting your sternum or your heart up to your chest. So often, when we get a little bit tired and we will in our practice, we can have this little reminder to loop the shoulders and lift the sternum to the thumbs each time we come to this hands at the heart or this prayer position, Anjali mudra.”

Now that’s just the start but you will already feel relaxed because you are breathing and stretching in the most gentle and calming way. The best part of it is that the breathing and the stretching can help you lose weight.

This is going to be a wonderful tool for beginning a yoga practice. Just kinda finding a balance between active body, strength, engaging qualities, and then also a softness and an ease, a lightness, and a calmness if you will. Finding a place where those two can dance and be together is what our yoga is all about.

So congratulations! You’ve just learned two basic yoga poses. How hard was that for you?
